I suspect that some blogs are not quite so self-absorbed... probably those who aim to serve a public audience; this, however, is not my aim (sure, anyone can read it... but why would they?).
I'm not much of a blog reader (too self-absorbed), but I did enjoy the blog "Stuff White People Like"... I stopped reading it because realizing that I like many of the things they say white people like was just too depressing (their "white people" would be more accurately described as "Kitsilano people" as it has less to do with race than it does class-- in particular, the "class" of those leading superficial, vacuous lives). The blog would be more specifically (and quite appropriately) titled "Stuff Kitsilano People Like "... which is why it's depressing for one to identify with it. Though, at the same time that it's depressing, sometimes it's laugh-out-loud funny. I just went there and looked at some of the latest posts; items 97, 100, and 101 were very funny.
But this ding-in-itself post isn't going to be about me or stuff white people like... it'll be about Anthony.
Anthony likes to fish and smoke cigars, often engaging in both activities at the same time. He sometimes sustains injuries while fishing and while smoking cigars. At least one of these injuries were reported as being the result of recklessly combining the two activities.
A few readers here have questioned the existence of Val. While Anthony constantly refers to her in conversation, he failed for years to produce her at social gatherings, leading many of us to wonder whether or not she is fictional (he is rather creative and sufficiently mindful that he would be able to pull off something like this, and he's also odd enough to derive significant enjoyment from accomplishing such a ruse) . Val's existence was first confirmed several years ago by Dominika, who saw them at the Airport as they were leaving for a trip to Hawaii. Dominika duly reported this encounter, but as we are incredulous people by trade, we were not immediately convinced, and wondered whether or not she had been co-opted (through bribery?).
I am happy to report that Val is real-- real, and fun. She and Anthony have twice visited Tofino, and are expected to visit again. Please contact me directly if you would like to schedule a polygraph session.
I'd be #101 if you call me on my #96.
ReplyDeleteWhat about #11?
ReplyDeleteWow. A post about me? I am flattered. And, other than the parts about yourself and your self absorption, the bit about stuff white people like (which I agree with you btw. It’s more about what people west of Cambie St. like more than strictly white people like. Do you know what white people really like? Other white people! And that’s not on the list probably because that wouldn’t be PC but it would be true.). It is about me…and Val.
ReplyDeleteGlad you enjoy the talks. I get a kick out of them too. Although, I don’t think I really am trying to do objective interpretations of your life. **Side note: once upon a time, I really worked on trying to interpret everything objectively and then realized that as soon as I was interpreting, I was defeating the purpose of objective realities. Then I worked on just observing but later thought about this: does the act of observing change the actions of subject being observed? And if my mere observing should change the actions of the subject being observed, is this still an objective act or have I put my interpretation on the subject by the subject’s reaction to me? Scientists call this the Observer Effect and it should not be confused with the Heisenberg Uncertainty Principle (Thanks Wiki!) **Back to the show: So now I try to understand what motivates people and then try to get people to understand what motivates them. Way more complicated and way more sillier conversations that are endlessly amusing are the results. But, if people get a better understanding of why they do what they do then I, being the mirror that bounces things back at them, will hopefully show them something about themselves….or not. Some people just don’t want to learn. D’Ing (see, spelled this way, it looks almost like the name of a west coast native language, eh?) when you get frustrated with me…it’s because you’re on the cusp of learning something about yourself you didn’t want to know. And our many conversations over the years that usually end with you telling me to, “Shut up. Shut the F*ck up!” is a really good indicator that I’m on the right track. And that I can get people smoking cigars after they quit, makes me sleep well at night too because I am kind of evil, that way. And that’s how I make your post, mainly about me into a post about you.
Are you some sort of Sith Lord?
ReplyDelete#11? With a 1/3rd or more of the pop of Vancouver being Asian, it's hard not to get involved at least once with an Asian. Funnily, whities don't give me much of a chance.
